I'm Edwin, a pianist and drummer based in Vancouver, BC, Canada. I started my YouTube channel, Edwin's Jazz Jam, because I missed the feeling of playing along with other musicians. At the time, my children were very young, so I wasn't able to perform in the local music scene. Naturally, I looked for backing tracks to play along with. Alas, none of them reproduced the excitement and energy of a live rhythm section. It's hard to practice how to swing if the music you're playing along to doesn't swing!
So, I decided to roll up my sleeves and create my own backing tracks for jazz standards. When I first started in December 2023, I wasn't sure if my play-along tracks would be well received. After all, there are many backing tracks available online! Over time, however, it became clear that my fellow jazz musicians really "dug" these backing tracks.
My jazz backing tracks will always remain free on YouTube, so that the global jazz community will always have someone to play along with. My dream is to support jazz musicians at all levels, in our journey towards musical excellence. It is an honour to play along with you through my backing tracks, and I look forward to hearing your musical creations!
If you find my backing tracks helpful, please consider supporting me! This is completely voluntary, and thank you to those who have already supported me in this journey. Support me with a small tip at the following link:
All my backing tracks are available for free on YouTube, and it's no secret that these videos can be easily converted to MP3 (though this is against YouTube's Terms of Service). If you are looking for higher-quality audio files (320 kbps MP3), I can provide these at a rate of $5 USD per track. Please contact me at edwin@edwinsjazzjam.com for more information.
If you are interested on working on a project together, please reach out to me at edwin@edwinsjazzjam.com.
Here are some ideas, but the possibilities are endless!
I also freelance on SoundBetter, so feel free to reach out to me there!
I'd love to stay in touch with you. I'll send you occasional email updates on what I've been up to, my other music projects, and some jazz tidbits.
As a gesture of appreciation, I'll send you a free MP3 (256 kpbs) download of my most popular backing track to "There Will Never Be Another You" (200 bpm). Record yourself jamming over it and I'd love to see the result!
